Atherton French Estate: Main House

For this perfect replica of an 18th c French mansard-roof estate, the client wanted to preserve the formal furnishing style, but also create transitional rooms where their small children could romp. The public rooms on the first floor are meant for business and social entertaining, the generous island-plus-peninsula kitchen is perfect for catered parties. Above the elegant Regency dining table, we injected bits of whimsy and humor with found-object chandeliers, wall sconces and hand-stamped Indian wallpaper.
The Master bedroom suite with his-and-hers dressing and bath rooms, is unabashedly over the top in the high French style. The bedroom stars an antique canopy bed, draped with silk panels echoing the gold, lilac and black motif throughout. A pair of curved sofas with clean lines provide a retro counterpoint to all the Ooh-la-la for a luxurious yet livable retreat.
